Succession Planning and Implementation

One of the unique challenges of family-business
succession is the overlap of family and business goals. Passing
the torch, from one generation to the next, is often a complex
and delicate transition process involving ownership, leadership
and the overall direction of the company -- and often a great
deal more.
Ceynowa Consulting designs an individually
tailored succession plan to meet the overall, strategic objectives
of the business. The Ceynowa program will encompass management
and ownership transitions, with a strong emphasis on enabling
families to make effective company decisions.
A three-phase approach is used to identify
the issues, whether found above or below the surface, in need
of being addressed The overall process can provide education,
assist in problem-solving, help the family work collaboratively
to set policies and develop a plan that, when fully implemented,
results in a positive outcome. An outcome that ensures the
on-going success of the business enterprise, maintains family
harmony, and meets individual goals.
Three Step Process
- Information Gathering and Issue Identification
Individual interviews are conducted with all involved parties.
Each person has their own unique perspective, concerns and
perception of the issues. This interview process provides
a respectful candid environment and provides a much-needed
opportunity for each family member and management team to
express his or her views and concerns anonymously.
- Family Meeting
At this time, the consulting team presents a report of the
interview data, including planning issues (both family and
business) that surfaced in the individual interviews. The
purpose of the meeting is to clearly outline the collective
issues and facilitate a dialogue to begin the planning process.
A written report and action plan is provided to the family.
- Plan Implementation
The goal of this step is to implement the action plan and
facilitate the process. This includes coordinating with
the family's other professional advisors and ensuring that
family members remain accountable to the policies and plan
adopted by the family group.
